The Franklin is proud to present a conversation, motivated by our exhibition What Material Do I Want To Be? For this exhibition, we have gathered a group of artists who explore materials and content at various frequencies, letting the ideas become a part of the foreground as well as the materiality that embodies their expression.
Participants include: Kelly Kristin Jones, Ann Toebbe, Maria Burundarena, Mariana Noreña, Jacklyn Jacunski, Jordan Martins, and Yasmin Spiro.

Enjoy the artistic hors d’oeuvres and libations, presented by participating artists from the exhibition What Material Do I Want To Be? Featuring work by Jaclyn Jacunski, Paola Cabal, Mariana Noreña, Yasmin Spiro, Edra Soto, and Dan Sullivan.

MUSIC from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Jordan Martins (pedal steel guitar and objects) and Adam Shead (percussion and objects) will play an hour of improvised sound making using instruments and objects, exploring the vibrational tones of a variety of materialities.
Adam Shead is an accomplished percussionist, composer, improviser, and performance curator based in Chicago. He frequently performs with the Stein/Smith/Shead trio, microplastique, and Cellular Chaos, and is a sought-after percussionist in the Chicago jazz and improvised music scene. For nearly a decade, Shead has curated performances at notable Chicago art galleries such as Slate Arts & Performance and Comfort Station, where he helps promote both emerging and established artists, enriching the local cultural landscape.
Jordan Martins is a Chicago based visual artist, curator, and musician. He received his MFA in visual arts from the Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) in Salvador, Brazil, in 2007. He is the executive director of Comfort Station, a multi-disciplinary art space in Chicago, and a lecturer in the Sculpture department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Recent musical projects include the pedal steel trio 60 Strings (with Justin Brown and Sam Wagster), experimental country ensemble Drawler, and the Plathemis Trio with Sarah Clausen and Zander Raymond.
