Prismatic (re)ality
@ OH Art Foundation
1029 W 35th St, Chicago, IL 60609
Opening Friday, June 21st, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Friday, July 12th
We are pleased to present Prismatic (re)ality at the OH Art Foundation on June 21st–July 12th, 2024. This group exhibition showcases artists in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Art & Technology/Sound Practices Department. Curated by Gordon Fung and Yuwen Huang, they interweave a narrative of expanded reality to celebrate 14 technologists and media artists’ endeavors.
Challenging boundaries of reality, the works synergistically resonate to create a space for visitors to reimagine what reality is. We invite visitors to navigate through different worlds created by artists with an intermix of AI-generated content, kinetic installations, custom-built video games, neon arts, projections, and audiovisual installations.
This diverse selection of media scrutinizes how technology offers prismatic lenses to our physical and digital worlds by expanding our sensations and perceptions. Tri (Erik Akerman), Rose Ansari & Zhe Li, and Zitian Li’s neon works spark new light to foster connections and guide the exploration; Yousif Alzayed, Dong Yao, Juan Flores, Eul Lee, and Mac Pierce repurpose daily objects to offer new insights for reinterpreting functionality; Lorenzo Osterheim, Xin Yang, and Yimei Zhu create invented territories through artificial intelligence; Mengjun Duan and Yiyi Liu design custom-built video games for audiences to embark their journey in the alternate world.
Please join us to explore this media wonderland in a Prismatic (re)ality. Stay tuned for our public programs featuring performances and activations. Should you have any inquiries, please contact Gordon Fung (gfung@saic.edu) and Yuwen Huang (yhuang45@saic.edu).
This exhibition receives generous support from SAIC’s Art & Technology / Sound Practices Department.
