@ The Camp/us
2883 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60618
Opening Saturday, January 13th, from 6PM - 12AM
On view through Saturday, January 20th
This is the first solo show for George John “LARDO” Larson. This show consists mostly of paintings.
This exhibit has pieces which contain, exaggerated sex organs, sex acts, and absurd bodily functions.
Mostly self taught. He never intended to be an artist. It just became a necessity. He took one beginning
painting class for therapy after he started getting chronic headaches. This class was taught by Morris Barazani. http://www.corbettvsdempsey.com/artists/morris-barazani/
George John “LARDO” Larson is trying to capture the subliminal ironies and absurdities of events, words, and things, real or imagined with his Art. This is for his need of comprehension, and need to create beauty with an alternate reality. To share this is also desired.
“Phone Sex III”, is based on boating on lake Michigan one day. One person’s girl friend could not make the event. He spent most of the time getting drunk and texting on his phone. At the end of the outing It was remarked to another person
on the boat, that the texter really loved their phone. The person that the remark was made to, who was a lawyer, replied. “You can’t love a phone it is an inanimate object”. To this It was replied, “he can put it on vibrate and stick it in his ass”. The lawyer then said, “that’s not love, that’s just sex”. This painting is a rebuttal. The phone has a text on it that says’, “This is not just sex I love you”.
The Phone Sex II version of this piece is in the permanent collection of the Kinsey Institute.
George John “LARDO” Larson will perform a Country Blues set at 7:00 PM, and do a performance piece at 8:30 PM.
