The first members of the Educators’ Art Exchange were participants at regular teachers’ art critiques hosted in northwest suburban high school District 211 in the early 2000s. More than once we’d remark that we’d like to take participant’s artworks home. Eventually, the idea was proposed that participants exchange the art that we critiqued and discussed. This idea eventually evolved into making editions of artworks for the purposes of exchange, as well as critique and discussion. For over a decade the Educators’ Art Exchange has been meeting each spring to exchange, discuss and celebrate a diversity of creations produced by its members. Over the years, EAE participants have expanded beyond the northwest suburbs to include educators from all over northeast Illinois.
The EAE 10th exchange show, “Spaces, Forms and Concepts”, is to commemorate EAE achievements and to celebrate the diversity of artworks created by our members. Always, the EAE enthusiastically encourages teachers to be active artists who regularly create art and be artistic role models for young people. The EAE seeks to demonstrate to our students and to the greater community that art ownership is accessible through mutual exchanging of art.
