Sharon Sprague: Drips and Amoebas
@ Studio 2850
2850 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
On view through Thursday, December 24th
New Studio 2850 Opens “Drips and Amoebas” — a Storefront-Window Exhibition by Artist Sharon Sprague
Thirteen new paintings fill the windows at 2850 W. Fullerton Ave. through December 24, viewable from the sidewalk day and night, with every piece available to view and buy online by QR code.
In this new body of work, Sprague explores the spiritual side of organic and biological forms through the lens of midcentury modern design and Eastern religious iconography. The acrylic and mixed-media canvases layer texture, metal and shimmer into drip and cell-like shapes that read as modern icons. The series ranges from 30-by-40-inch canvases to a group of narrow 24-by-8-inch “Little Drip” panels.
Sharon Sprague is a painter and collage artist working in acrylic, watercolor, pastel, graphite and ink. She received her MFA from New York University and began her artistic career as a designer for the the theatre, creating the sets and costumes for productions in New York City and regional theaters across the country. She has gradually moved her creative process to a more solo pursuit, returning to her studio to create a variety of abstract series exploring texture and reimagining of traditional icons.
The windows are designed to be seen from the sidewalk at any hour. A QR code on the storefront links to studio2850.com, where visitors can see each piece up close with full details and purchase it directly. Works are available for purchase.
