Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst is a love letter to the Black Cowboy and the culture, history, and communities that have carried this figure across America. Featuring the photography of Rob Fox Rich, the exhibition revisits the American West through a Black perspective, challenging the visual traditions that have too often centered whiteness within its mythology.
Rather than treating the cowboy as a relic of the past, the exhibition celebrates the ways cowboy culture continues to live within Black communities today. These photographs honor the people, places, style, relationships, and traditions that move the cowboy away from an image and into a living cultural inheritance.
In reshaping the visual archive, Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst makes space for stories rooted in pride, memory, belonging, and love. The exhibition expands the visual language of Americana by recognizing Black cowboy culture not as an exception to the American story, but as one of the many traditions that have always shaped it.
