The last exhibition for 2026, Void, is a conversation between Volume 1, Chapter 1’s curator Molly Zuckerman-Hartung and writer Chas Reetz-Liaolo. Void features work by both collaborators in the Waiting Room with tête-à-tête by Troy Briggs as selected by curator-of-chair, Kelly Kaczynski. The Reading Room reveals some additional footnotes, an edition, a video and a sculpture by Iris Bernblum, the latter invited by tête’s principal, Shannon Stratton. Void is on view November 7, 2026- January 2, 2027.
Molly Zuckerman-Hartung was born in 1975 in California and raised in the Pacific Northwest.
Chas Reetz-Laiolo was born in 1975 in California and raised in the Pacific Northwest.
Troy Briggs is an artist and educator living in Chicago. His practice is driven by the belief that everything becomes more fascinating, complex, terrifying, and beautiful the longer we attend to it. Through slow-moving systems and subtle interventions, his projects bring distant and imperceptible events into view. Over the years he has worked with canaries, black holes, the wind, the moon’s gradual drift from Earth, and the undulating motion of waves.
Originally from Colorado, he earned his BFA in Sculpture from CSU (2001) and his MFA in Fiber and Material Studies from SAIC (2012), where he has taught interdisciplinary art and design since 2013. His work has been exhibited in Chicago, Portland, and Berlin.
Iris Bernblum is a cross-disciplinary, conceptually based artist. She explores ideas around human nature, power and vulnerability, focusing primarily on the way we frame our sense of self in regards to our current capitalist culture and its commodification of nearly every natural impulse. She has shown at venues including: Aspect/Ratio Gallery, The Arts Club of Chicago, Goldfinch Projects, and Weinberg/Newton Gallery in Chicago, Illinois; Osmos Station / Arts & Rec, Springs Projects, The Brooklyn International Film Festival, September Gallery, Artist’s Space and The Elizabeth Foundation in New York, New York; The Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. She received her MFA from Columbia University in New York and her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
The scent for Void was created by Superliminal Fragrance, a Chicago based independent artisan fragrance project by Gabriel Miles Freeman, inspired by the persistent world of scent all around us, silently guiding our most ancient selves with its invisible hand.
Drawing from liminal spaces, Superliminal plans to debut three fragrances in spring 2027: Book, Hole, and Oyster
