Sweet Void Cinema returns to FACETS to present a collection of shorts made by Chicago-based filmmakers in a wide array of circumstances and scale. Films include experimental work, narrative, and everything between.

Sweet Void Cinema is a community-driven microcinema and production company located in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood. Every month they host unique screenings and offer free workshops aimed at connecting the Chicago film community and platforming local voices.

While anxiously awaiting a medical diagnosis, a middle aged woman named Frances becomes occupied with her chicken’s missing eggs and the 11 year old girl she catches stealing them.

Spectres and bones (Ashley Dequilla, 2024, 12 mins)

An intervention of obscured history that channels the filmmaker’s dual roles as the de facto archivist of the Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago and Co-Curator Partner of the Philippine Heritage Collection at the Field Museum of Natural History. Shot on 16mm.
