Electric Psalms: Narrative & Ritual in the Age of Algorithms
@ Gallery Wrightwood
3325 W Wrightwood Ave, Chicago, IL
Opening Friday, May 23rd, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Saturday, June 21st
Electric Psalms gathers contemporary artists working at the intersection of technology, spirituality, and storytelling to examine how ritual survives—and is reshaped—within a digital world. Staged in the resonant architecture of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, the exhibition invites audiences to experience a new kind of liturgy: one mediated by code, sound, image, and machine.
Featuring works by Nimrod Astarhan, Andrew Boynton, Sarah Brophy, Isaac Couch, Anna Johnson, Alan Perry, and Max Li, the exhibition explores themes ranging from algorithmic devotion and artificial intelligence to media archaeology and the aesthetics of transcendence.
Electric Psalms explores how faith, ritual, and storytelling are transformed by rapidly evolving technology. Set within a sacred space, the exhibition brings together works in photography, sound, video, performance, and fashion that reimagine ritualistic symbols and communal practices for the digital age. Blending ancient traditions with contemporary aesthetics, the artists reflect on how daily rituals—and our understanding of transcendence—are reshaped by the devices, networks, and habits that structure modern life.
Electric Psalms opens on May 23 with live performances by Anna Johnson and Zitian Li at 7:30 PM, activating the space through voice, movement, and technological intervention. The exhibition is on view through June 21. Gallery hours and additional programming to be announced.
