The Art Institute of Chicago had conducted the exhibition of ‘Chicago and Vicinity’ artists on the highest professional level from 1897 into 1980s. It was not only one of the oldest, but among the most respected, regional exhibitions in the country. It showed a lively and distinguished body of work reflecting current local character as well as a wide variety of styles which relate to the national and international scene.
This exhibition is in two sections. One is a historical show featuring a variety of artists that exhibited in the original Chicago and Vicinity shows at the Art Institute of Chicago. Additionally, a contemporary group of regional artists (and Redux) will be shown in the front gallery. “Chicago and Vicinity (and Redux)” is our inaugural show.
