On view through Friday, May 29th
PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is now entirely virtual.
Do you love typography and street art? Does seeing Chicago’s breadth of public murals and graffiti inspire you? If yes, join us for this Design Museum Works two-day workshop led by Chuck West where you’ll have the opportunity to hone your typography and illustration skills and expand your knowledge of design history. Learn and experience Chicago graffiti from some of Chicago’s own graffiti artists and designers. Both days of this event will be taking place remotely over Zoom.
Day 1: Workshop
Thursday, May 28, 2020, 6–7:30pm
The first day of the workshop will begin with a presentation by Lewis Taylor and Luis Montenegro Ferrel on the history of graffiti, its evolution, and its key contributors, followed by a Q&A. Following this, attendees will spend an hour with experts who will demonstrate how to write in different graffiti styles, and then have the chance to create a graffiti typeface of their own.
Day 2: Virtual Field Trip
Friday, May 29, 2020, 6:30–8pm
During the second day of the workshop, attendees will be given a virtual walk-through of a prominent graffiti site in Chicago where they will learn about the history and intent behind the work. This will be a pre-recorded video by the workshop host.
