In “Shattered Pyramids,” artist P. Scott challenges our Western linear and dichotomous perceptions of life and death through the process of constructing 3D mixedmedia and found object installations, destroying them, and then reconstructing new pieces from the remnants of the former. Scott’s highly and inherently structural designs are demolished, but the fragmented remains find their reawakenings in new eccentric configurations. This daring approach enables Scott to move beyond institutional conventions and explore a play between freedom and structure urging us to consider what forms live beyond these constructs. Just as physical structures find their renaissance in chaos, humanity too has the innate capacity to transform and revolutionize entire belief systems in times of discord. Through his signature color scheme of black and white, Scott seeks to expose the fetish for opposites challenging his audience to deconstruct and transcend common notions of race and identity. As humanity continues on in the cycle of death and rebirth we must be prepared to shatter pyramids of the past in order to transcend our current reality and imagine new possibilities.
