Hosted by The Research House for Asian Art and curated by Lynette Shen, Three Visages of Nature presents three artists’ distinct approaches in the exploration of the intricate relationship between nature and human beings. Among the featured works, nature is portrayed as a witness of human history, a channel to memories, and a condensation of anxieties towards city and disaster. The featured works pose the questions – how do we comprehend human’s and nature’s role in the Longue Durée? How do we understand the entangled relationship between human-made structures and natural disasters? How does nature, in its metaphorical and symbolic form, harbor affect and memories? Artists in this exhibition explore these questions through recurring themes of oceans, wells, fantastical animal figures, and botanical illustrations.
You are warmly invited to join us on Nov. 5h, 6-9pm for the opening reception! In consideration of others’ and your own safety, please wear a mask and practice social distancing at the opening reception.
