Yesenia Bello (b.1994 Norristown, PA) lives and works in Chicago. Her practice stems from her lived experience as a first-generation Mexican-American and especially from the loss of her first language over time. Through play, Yesenia explores the sensations of a slow slippage and resulting quick discoveries. Her monoprints on fabric use the method of screenprinting with crayon and ink to amplify the mysterious and chance-based qualities of the process itself. She aligns a similar feeling of ‘not knowing’ and ‘blind faith’ with this work. Through machine sewing, she enacts a retracing of the first print layer – an excavation of what came before in an attempt to recreate the surface.
Yesenia’s work will be on display every Tuesday-Sunday during the Cafe’s normal business hours until early November.
