Jon Rafman: The Age Demanded

@ Golden Age

119 N Peoria St, 2D, Chicago, IL 60607

Opening Friday, October 29th, from 6PM - 9PM

On view through Friday, December 10th

Golden Age is pleased to present The Age Demanded, Jon Rafman’s first solo exhibition. Mixing humor and melancholy Rafman’s video, photography, and painting celebrates technology while critiquing the consciousness it reflects.

In Woods of Arcady, Vangelis-like synths and text-to-speech robots guide us through three dimensional classic antiquity. In Nine Eyes of Google Street Views, Rafman highlights the tension between an automated camera and our search for connectedness. In his collaborative work at the edge of formalist abstraction (Paint FX), Rafman once more uses the medium itself as a tool to investigate how new technologies shape culture.

Join us at 8pm on the opening night for an existential tour through the multi-user virtual environment of Second Life. Rafman’s Kool-Aid Man avatar will lead us across cyberpunk megalopolises, furry sex clubs, and psychedelic jungles, while providing critical commentary on the implications of virtual worlds for modern society.
