Stories using animals as their main characters abound in cultural mythology around the
world. Using the connotations built up by these tales in the cultural subconscious, Kirin Kane
examines the people and relationships around them as a means of adding to our collective
narratives about gender, family, and cultural heritage. As a multiracial queer person in
an increasingly hostile country, they mine experiences for direction on how to find or
build a space where they feel at home.
