Join the Sequences, Iterations, and Permutations (SiP) community for a reception, exhibition tour, and panel discussion on Saturday, June 4th from 1:30 – 3:30 pm celebrating the 49 artists in this exhibition at Hyde Park Art Center. The exhibition tour will be lead by the curator Jasper Goodrich and the panel will include artists Ariadna Ginez, Alina N Negomireanu, Neala Berkowski, and Jackie Ropski.

Starting in May of 2020, an online class began at the Hyde Park Art Center titled “Sequences, Iterations, and Permutations.” Instead of artmaking that leads to one thing, artists in this class make collections that tell stories, depict emotions, or communicate ideas. SIP explores how working iteratively (building upon previous forms, where information is lost and gained through making) can help artists’ creative process. Artists work in a range of mediums, from photography, collage, printmaking, and drawing, to video, dance, sculpture, and poetry. This exhibition celebrates this community and is curated by Jasper Goodrich who taught this class, colloquially known as SIP.

There is also an exhibition within the SiP exhibition opening on June 4, 2022 titled S(SiP)iP: show within a show, highlighting the work of 10 artists in the current Spring 2022 “Sequences, Iterations, Permutations” class.

Finally, the event on June 4th will also celebrate the activation of Stan Vanderbeek’s “Panels for the Walls of the World” (https://www.hydeparkart.org/exhibition-archive/stan-vanderbeek-panels-for-the-walls-of-the-world-phase-i-1970/) mural from 1970 by the current SiP class, putting the historical work into dialogue with artists who continue to propose new ways to make art with others with help of new technologies today.
