Shifting Boundaries: Community Arts Practice in Public Schools
@ Hairpin Arts Center
2810 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60618
Opening Thursday, March 8th, from 5PM - 8PM
On view through Friday, March 9th
How can the collaborative work of teachers, artists, parents and students in public schools redefine the boundaries between the classroom and the community? Between the neighborhood community and the rest of the city? For the past three years, Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education (CAPE) has partnered with four Chicago neighborhood schools to implement ongoing projects that partner local artists with Chicago Public School teachers, parents, and students. This network of partnerships has been actively representing, engaging, and communicating with their respective neighborhood communities through a practice of artistic research and localized exhibition.
Shifting Boundaries explores what happens when these distinct neighborhood-based school groups come together for a citywide interaction to inform their own work and connect to external audiences.
