BRONZEVILLE PRIDE WALK: A Strolling Shrine to Queer Bronzeville
Meet at the South Side Community Art Center at 9:30 AM for a welcome and brief introduction. At 10:00 AM, begin the Queer History Walking Tour, visiting key historic sites along State Street, Cottage Grove Avenue, and 43rd and 47th Streets.
Led by Rachael Pierce, this event honors the legacy of Black queer folk in Bronzeville. Explore Queer Bronzeville’s rich heritage, uncovering stories and landmarks of the African-American LGBTQ+ experience. Honor Lorraine Hansberry with tributes and reflections inspired by “A Raisin in the Sun.” This walk affirms the enduring presence and resilience of queer folks in Bronzeville, offering history, culture, and community connection.
⭐ 9:30 AM: Welcome and introduction at the South Side Community Art Center.
⭐ 10:00 AM: Begin the Queer History Walking Tour, visiting key historic sites along State Street, Cottage Grove Avenue, and 43rd and 47th Streets.
⭐ 11:00 AM: Tribute to Lorraine Hansberry at significant locations tied to her life and legacy.
⭐ 11:30 AM: Guided Reflection inspired by “A Raisin in the Sun” back at the center.
⭐ 12:00 PM: Event concludes at the South Side Community Art Center.
