Guided Meditation with Olive Stefanski
@ Roman Susan
1224 W Loyola Ave, Chicago, IL 60626
Opening Friday, August 27th, from 4:45PM - 5PM
On view through Sunday, August 29th
Olive Stefanski will offer an outdoor group guided meditation on Friday, August 27 from 4:45-5:00 PM at Roman Susan Art Foundation to coincide with the closing weekend of their solo exhibition romansusan.org/And-Before-One-What-Are-You-Counting?
The guided meditation will begin with a reading of a short excerpt from The Disordered Cosmos by Chanda Prescod-Weinstein and then Olive will read a guided meditation of their own making in which meditators will go through a short visualization journey where they will spend time in a lush and welcoming garden, encountering the natural world and meditating on and welcoming in feelings of love, healing and safety. The intention of the meditation is to provide a space for relaxation, breath and comfort.
Participants are invited to bring a yoga mat/other mat/blanket for laying on the sidewalk outside of Roman Susan or a portable chair if they require any of those items. Roman Susan will also have chairs for participants. You do not have to lie down to experience the meditation. The meditation itself will be about 15 minutes, with a few minutes before the meditation for participants to situate themselves and get comfortable and then with a couple of minutes to return back to themselves and the space, make notes or have a drink of water. Participants should bring a mask and socially distance in the outdoor area of the meditation.
The meditation is free to participate, but the artist would like to encourage participants to donate whatever they are able to give to The Black Girl Freedom Fund and/or Stop Line 3.
