Chris Reeves: The Mountain
Chris Reeves will present a dining room sized mountain, maybe what someone (who?) would call a “domestic mountain” at the home of Elana Adler & Danny Floyd. The Mountain will speak through the voices of 50 individuals performing Kurt Schwitters’ 1919 work, “Class Opera Struggle,” a vocal pirouette of ups and downs. A takeaway puzzle book will be available in a small edition to supplement/further mystify/demystify this whole thing.
Bio: Chris Reeves is a Chicago based research creator and a PhD candidate in Art History at the University of Illinois at Chicago. There he coordinated “Expanded Art History for Plants,” a series of pedagogical and performance experiments in the UIC Greenhouse. From 2009-2013 he co-founded and ran Museum Gallery/Gallery Museum and Third Party Gallery in Cincinnati, OH & he currently runs (with Curtis Miller) Flatland in McKinley Park. His work has been shown all over, a few times in Europe, a few times in the happening US coastal cities, & many times in various spots in the Midwest. In late 2019, he will release “Classical Muddly,” a handbook on the Portsmouth Sinfonia edited with Aaron Walker, through Soberscove Press.
