Tara Parambi: You Can Buy Happiness But Eventually You’ll Shit It Out
@ AMFM Gallery
2151 W 21st St, Chicago, IL 60608
Opening Friday, May 4th, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Tuesday, May 15th
The exhibition “You Can Buy Happiness But Eventually You’ll Shit It Out” is a reflection of the artist, Tara Parambi’s obsession with the sources of happiness. This body of work consists of eleven pared down sculptures that act as a foil for one singular visually abundant painting.
Each piece delves into a different realm – family, eroticism, relationships, mass media and capitalism – that questions what happiness looks like both in its physical manifestation and as an intangible ideology. In other words, the works serve as hypotheses that are at the viewer’s discretion to judge their veracity. The show has an overarching feeling of cautionary longing with a perceptible undercurrent of acidic humour.
Tara Parambi (b. 1997, Mumbai, India, currently lives between India and Chicago) is an Indian artist of British nationality currently pursuing a BFA at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has previously lived in India and London. Her work is signed under the moniker CIIIIG.

Art First Fridays — in Pilsen is a collaborative effort initiated by Pilsen Outpost, Hoofprint Workshop & Cobalt Studio. We have come together to create an art walk in a part of Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood that is not regularly explored. With the cluster of creative spaces, galleries and studios spread out within the boundaries of Ashland Ave, Western Ave, Blue Island Ave, and 18th St, we were motivated to invite the community and others from around the city to explore the hidden art gems in Pilsen.
Every First Friday of the month there will be a combination of gallery show openings, open studios, and special creative events at each location.
We welcome all to explore, meet, and friend the creative folks that make up this art filled community we live in.
