Global Vistas
@ Bridgeport Art Center
1200 W 35th St, Chicago, IL 60609
Opening Friday, May 17th, from 7PM - 10PM
Although landscape painting has been a venerated tradition in Western art for centuries, the artists whose work is presented in Global Vistas demonstrate how the genre of landscape is being addressed in exciting new ways today. The exhibition runs through July 5th, 2019.
Valda Oestreicher, a Canadian artist, creates i-pad drawings from her travels all over the world. Patricia Glee Smith, an American expat who has lived in Italy for many years, paints exquisitely realistic views of the surrounding countryside. Valerie Taglieri’s body of work explores the subtle beauty of skies and clouds here in the Midwest. Didier Nolet invents beautiful imaginary landscapes and Jacqueline Moses presents surreal paintings which show how human culture is transforming and destroying the landscape all over the world.
The opening reception will be enhanced with a performance by DrumDivas, a dynamic collective of women who have come together over the years to rejoice in the art of percussive music. A leader of the group, Yaoundé Olu, has rented an art studio at BAC for many years.
