Join us for one of our most popular nights at Defibrillator as artists, arts administrators, local business owners, and friends lip sync to raise funds for our 2018/2019 season. Recontextualizing what is known as a drag entertainment form, we’ve encouraged the invited performers to riff on or rethink the concept of lip synchronization. The results are pretty amazing.
Funds raised at this event go toward artist fees, housing and meals for visiting artists, artist materials and production expenses, and operational costs like insurance, accounting, and publicity. Last February Defibrillator relocated to the Bridgeport neighborhood to become part of the The Zhou B Art Center and we couldn’t be happier! In the past we requested donations at the door for our events, but now, with significantly reduced overhead, we endeavor for all our exhibitions and events to be FREE and accessible to everyone! We need your support in order to make it possible.
Defibrillator Gallery [a.k.a. DFBRL8R] is an international platform for Performance Art. Contextualizing performance in the realm of visual art, DFBRL8R embraces those who look to the body in concert and conversation with time, space, object, nature, architecture, or society. Bold and courageous programming aims to provoke thought and stimulate discourse surrounding underrepresented voices and time-based practices. Working with both established and emerging artists, DFBRL8R is dedicated to fostering local makers while invigorating Chicago with artists of exceptional calibre from around the world. Actively contributing to a global dialog surrounding conceptual, ephemeral, or enigmatic forms of expression, DFBRL8R aims to raise awareness, appreciation, and respect for the discipline of Performance Art.
