Snow City Arts 20th Anniversary: A Room Without Walls
@ Open Books - West Loop
651 W Lake St, Chicago, IL 60661
Opening Thursday, February 15th, from 6 PM - 8 PM
Snow City Arts has been providing arts education and creative inspiration to youth in Chicagoland hospitals for 20 years! Come celebrate our 20th anniversary at our A Room Without Walls series of special pop up events around Chicago. Each event will represent the disciplines in which Snow City Arts works: Creative Writing, Visual Arts, Teaching Artistry, Theatre, Film, and Music. Because Snow City Arts works in a private setting at the bedside of our student’s hospital beds, an outside look into their stories and work is rare. These events offer you the unique opportunity to get to know Snow City Arts, our students, and our Teaching Artists. We will be partnering with well known venues across the city such as Steppenwolf Theatre, Gene Siskal Film Center, Open Books, Weinberg/Newton, etc. to bring you this exciting series of exhibitions and one-time events. ALL EVENTS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
This Creative Writing Exhibition, co-presented by Open Books, will feature the work of Snow City Arts students and the poetic responses by Claudia Rankine, Matthias Regan, Dan Beachy-Quick, Christine Hume, Matthew Zapruder and live readings by Roger Bonair-Agard, CM Burroughs, and Emily Jungmin Yoon. MCed by Snow City Arts Poet, Eric Elshtain. Guests will be able to read the students’ works via chapbooks, framed pieces, and “poetry lamps.” Refreshments will be provided.
