Chicago Artists Coalition is pleased to partner with the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events for Lake FX Chicago CreativeCon 2017, the region’s largest FREE conference for artists and creative entrepreneurs.

This panel conversation will explore five distinct Chicago-based residency models and share best practices for artists and administrators alike. The panelists will discuss the process of fostering community and professional development within the context of residencies and share advice for artists on how to take full advantage of the time, space, and resources offered by these programs.

PANELISTS BIO

Olivia Junell | Development & Outreach Director, Experimental Sound Studio

Olivia Junell is the Development and Outreach Director at Experimental Sound Studio and the Managing Director of the Hyde Park Jazz Festival. A native Texan, Olivia moved to Chicago in 2013 to pursue a dual Masters in Arts Administration and Public Policy and Modern Art History and Critical Writing at the School of the Art Institute Chicago. Since moving to Chicago she has enthusiastically thrown herself into the city’s arts scene, working with organizations including Honey Pot Performance, the Roger Brown Study Collection, Elastic Arts Foundation, and High Concept Labs, in addition to curating periodically. Olivia is particularly interested in organizational structures and has a great love for a good database.

Rebecca Parker | Program Director, Ox-Bow, school of art and artists’ residency

Rebecca Parker is interested in creating opportunities for artists to engage with communities that support and grow their practice. As Program Director at Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists’ Residency, she works with faculty, visiting artists, artists-in-residence, and students to create programming that connects artists to the landscape of Ox-Bow as a site for experimentation and community. As an arts administrator, she has worked in a number of capacities, including commissioning public art and working with university admissions. Prior to moving to Chicago, she served as the grants manager for the Winston-Salem and Forsyth Arts Council. She received her Master of Fine Arts, with a performance focus, from the University of Connecticut, and her BFA in ceramics from Middle Tennessee State University. She continues her practice as an artist and has exhibited at the CAC, Chicago, IL; ArtSpace, New Haven, CT; Elsewhere Collaborative, Greensboro, NC; and Chasama, NY.

Nicole Patin | Community Arts Engagement Manager, Arts and Public Life at The University of Chicago

Featured in The Guardian, Chicago Tribune and on HBO, WBEZ and WGN, Chicago native Nikki Patin has been writing, performing, educating and community organizing for almost 15 years. She has taught hundreds of workshops on spoken word, body image and interpersonal violence. Recently, she addressed the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland on behalf of Black women survivors of sexual violence. Nikki Patin holds an MFA in Creative Non-Fiction from the University of Southern Maine.

Jessica Pierotti | Executive Director, LATITUDE

Jessica is an interdisciplinary artist, photographer, and educator with an MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She works as the Executive Director for the non-profit LATITUDE Chicago and as an Instructor in the Photography Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Most recently she traveled to Berlin for the Leipzig.Chicago.Berlin.Connection Residency in October of 2016.

Teresa Silva | Director of Exhibitions & Residencies, Chicago Artists Coalition

Teresa Silva is the Director of Exhibitions & Residencies with the Chicago Artists Coalition, where she oversees BOLT Residency and HATCH Projects residency programs. She is a writer, curator, and member of the artist-run spaces TSA (Chicago), VGA Gallery (Chicago), and Exgirlfriend (Berlin).

ABOUT Lake FX CreativeCon

The Lake FX CreativeCon (April 21-22, 2017) is the region’s largest FREE conference for emerging artists and creatives and is designed to connect, inform and inspire “makers” in the music, dance, design, theater, and arts fields. In addition to keynote speakers, the event will feature professional development workshops, an interactive resource fair, networking opportunities, auditions in front of leading A&R label executives for selected musicians and much more
