PERFECT DISK may refer to:

A disk defragmentation utility developed by Raxco and first released in 1990 for the VMS operating system,

An iteration of the copper disk often used to control movement in automatons, as in Maillardet’s “Draughtsman-Writer.” The Computer History Museum in Mountain View displays several of the automaton’s drawings to highlight the similarity in function between disk cam mechanisms and ROM.

The Poincaré disk, a mathematical model of a finite circle that contains an entire infinite plane, on the condition that everything shrinks as it approaches the rim.

A steel disk punched with projections that pluck a tuned comb through star wheels, the interchangeable program format of the Symphonion, Polyphon, and Regina disc music boxes manufactured from 1885 in Leipzig and Rahway, New Jersey.

A gramophone record pressed in chocolate, sold by the Stollwerck company of Cologne in 1903 for its toy phonograph.

Disc rot, the family of corrosions — clouding, pinholes, “bronzing” — by which CDs marketed under the slogan “Perfect Sound Forever” became unreadable.

A rondelle, the disk of human skull cut out by Neolithic trepanation and worn afterward as an amulet — sometimes taken from patients who had survived the operation, sometimes from those who had not.

The optic disc, the point where the nerve leaves the retina and no image can form. Every eye is organized around a small disk of blindness.

A paper disk soaked in antibiotic and laid on a lawn of bacteria in the Kirby–Bauer test. The clear circle that forms around it is called the zone of inhibition.

A nice art show with Justin D’Acci, Raine Thomas, and Jessica Hiller.
