Michael Zerang : STUDY #1 for Queequeg’s Coffin
@ DRONE Gallery
4425 N. Clark St. Chicago, IL 60640
Opening Thursday, June 23rd, from 7:30PM - 9PM
Michael Zerang presents a series of studies for Queequeg’s Coffin, a droning stringed instrument that he conceptualized for Blair Thomas and Co.’s theatrical version of Moby Dick in early 2016, that was designed and fabricated by Erik Newman.
The instrument has the scale length of a full sized cello, with four strings that are vibrated by a circular, wooden wheel – the same mechanism that sounds a Hurdy Gurdy. This series of studies for solo performer are designed to explore the instruments sonic and musical properties and potential, and are the precursor to a full length composition for the instrument.
STUDY #1 FOR QUEEQUEG’S COFFIN will be performed at DRONE Gallery – 4425 N. Clark St. on June 23, 2016 at 7:30PM
