Women We Love
@ Gallery19

Opening Friday, June 3rd, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Sunday, August 28th
Gallery19 presents its summer exhibition “Women We Love”, a meticulous collection of photographs, paintings and prints by established and emerging female artists.
The current art market is seeing a resurgence in women-only shows, something which had fallen out of favor by the late 1980’s and 90’s. These exhibitions have sparked a renewed interest, on behalf of collectors, in often overlooked work, making up for decades of marginality and a gross imbalance in market representation and funding. Gallery19 pursues an agenda challenging the historical norm by consistently representing women and minority artists in exhibitions featuring socially relevant and technically masterful artwork.
Featured Artist Linda Adele Goodine embodies the ingenuity and resilience that female artists have had to adopt to become successful. Goodine is an acclaimed professor, photographer, dancer and performance artist. Three decades of photographic exploration of body politics, environmental issues, and political activism lead to her “Seneca Honey” series, monumental photographs produced at a honey farm near Goodine’s childhood home. The artist describes the images as “suspending memory and death in a mixture of honey and beeswax.”
Other participating artists include international painter and printmaker Corinna Button who challenges society’s preoccupation with female perfection in her mixed media portraiture. Croatian artist Ana Zanic produces elegant watercolors combining grand gesture and minute mark-making. Chicago-based artist Brittney Leeanne Williams’ paintings serve as social commentary at once benign and seditious.
Artists: Linda Adele Goodine, Corinna Button, Kathleen Hawkes, Sally Ko, Kathy Weaver, Brittney Leeanne Williams, Brigitte Wolf, Ana Zanic
