Jessica Curtaz: Into Fractions: New Drawings
@ Bert Green Fine Art
8 S Michigan Ave Suite 620, Chicago IL
Opening Saturday, January 16th, from 5PM - 8PM
On view through Saturday, February 27th
Bert Green Fine Art is pleased to present our fourth solo show by Philadelphia-based Jessica Curtaz, and a small group show of collage work by five artists working on the coasts and in Chicago: Doug Stapleton, Veronica Bruce, Jeff Gillette, Robb Stone and Man Bartlett.
Jessica Curtaz’s drawings are hyper-detailed studies of naturally occurring patterns, which are taken from the observation of the structures of plant life and man made craft. Highly complex detail views are repeated and recombined to create an overall abstract impression – these artworks reflect the artist’s fascination with form and structure. Curtaz uses her considerable skill to make these drawings with the most remarkable amount of detail with minute line work, visually arresting and at the same time disarming and lovely.
Collage is a time-honored medium that is practiced by most artists at one time or another — either in their preparatory practice or as final, finished artworks. The impulse to assemble, dismember, and re-organize imagery is central to an artist’s methodology and the creative process. In this group show five artists, working in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, are brought together in the gallery’s project room. Featured artists are Doug Stapleton (Chicago), Veronica Bruce (Chicago), Jeff Gillette (Los Angeles), Robb Stone (Chicago and Los Angeles) and Man Bartlett (New York).
There will be an Opening Reception on Saturday January 16, 2016 from 5-8 pm. Gallery hours are Wednesday–Friday 11–6 and Saturday 12-5, or by appointment at other times.
All gallery events are free and open to the public. Additional exhibition information, press releases and high resolution images may be found at the gallery website at http://bgfa.us.
