DATABASE ANIMALS, the third show at Mavra, opens Saturday, November 14th starting at 6pm.
In collaboration with Solo Show, the exhibition presents 40 artists from around the world working through narrative atomization, stock characters, archetypes, avatars, and fan culture. Drawing its title from Hiroki Azuma’s landmark text, DATABASE ANIMALS tests the limits of his reading of Kojeve’s Hegel on animalized consumption in posthistory: what aesthetics thrive amid the demise of grand narrative? We are thrilled to present paintings, prints, digital work, sculptures, video, interactives, toys, dolls, Happy Science & I AM Activity & other NRM/cult artworks & more.
DATABASE ANIMALS is curated by J. G. Singhal, with assistance from Josie Neville and Veronica Timble. The show runs November 14 through December 23 at Mavra and December 4 through December 11 at our satellite project space in Garfield Park.
