Chicago, IL— Both/And, a group show featuring female and non-binary artists from the Chicagoland area opens November 14th at Hairpin Arts Center in Avondale. The exhibition invites viewers to step away from rigid emotional dualities and embrace the full, complex spectrum of the human experience.
Both/And confronts the pervasive “either/or” thinking that dominates modern emotional culture, offering a radical alternative. Rather than glorifying suffering or rejecting happiness, the exhibition creates a space where opposing emotional states coexist, complement, and illuminate one another.
Featured artists Bethany Cordero, Cathleen Cramer, Annie Fahrenbach, Cay Mims, Amanda Mulcahy, Jill Nahrstedt, Kimmy Noonen, Victoria Pater, Yang Pulongbarit Cuevo, Katie Rodrigues, and Mary Kate Venturini approach the theme of the exhibition through various media, including photography, sculpture, painting, collage, and printmaking. Both/And demonstrates what becomes possible when artists stop forcing a choice and instead inhabit the whole of who they are.
