THE MONSTERS ARE COMING. SOME OF THEM ARE ARTISTS.
@ Childhood Fractured's Phygital Art Gallery
1432 W Irving Park Rd, Chicago, IL 60613
Opening Friday, October 16th, from 7PM - 1130PM
On view through Thursday, October 22nd
Featuring Jason Davis, Allen Vandever, Tully Bertorelli, and David Hauptschein.
I have seen the monsters of my generation, painted, stitched, broken, resurrected, and hung upon the walls of Chicago!
I have seen forgotten dolls rise from the garbage, plastic saints with missing eyes, teddy bears with terrible secrets, creatures born from the wreckage of childhood, and beautiful nightmares that refuse to stay dead.
And I have given them a home.
COME! COME! COME!
Come you lovers of the strange, the beautiful, the grotesque, the misunderstood!
Come you collectors of nightmares, you poets of the absurd, you children of Halloween who never quite grew up!
Come witness a congregation of monsters, assembled from the ruins of toys, dreams, memory, and imagination.
MONSTER ART SHOW!
Four artists opening the doors to a world where the monsters are not hiding beneath your bed.
THEY ARE HANGING ON THE WALLS!
And some of them are for sale.
Because even monsters have bills to pay.
This exhibition is part of my EVERY FRIDAY UNTIL THE NEW YEAR series of art shows, an ongoing effort to keep my studio, my gallery, and my 27-year journey as a full-time artist alive.
Yes, dear friends, the monsters are gathering, the rent is coming, and the artist is still breathing!
For now.
There is something beautifully absurd about spending your life creating things that don’t exist, only to discover that the most terrifying monster of all is your landlord.
But I refuse to surrender quietly.
I will paint! I will assemble! I will exhibit! I will invite the entire city into my strange little universe until the doors close or the monsters learn to pay rent!
SO COME CELEBRATE THE BEAUTIFUL AND THE TERRIBLE!
Come get ready for Halloween.
Come find a monster that speaks to your soul.
Come take one home.
And if you can, buy a piece of art. Not as charity, but because something strange and wonderful deserves a place in your life.
Because every monster needs a home.
And so does this artist.
