I think of this collection of drawings and paintings simply as “scapes” – not quite landscapes,
but not cityscapes either. “Peoplescapes” might be a better word for them;
as human interaction and specifically conflict, is their primary focus.
It took me years to make some of these pieces because I kept starting over when even one detail was off.
Each composition is a carefully constructed pattern – a precarious balance of positive and negative,
specific and abstract – imposing order on the messiness of our social landscape.
Clare Rosean received her B.F.A. at the School of the Art Institute, Chicago
and her M.F.A. at the University of Chicago.
