Borrowing its title from Marvin Gaye’s enduring question and call for compassion, Perspective Gallery’s 2026 Vicinity show, “What’s Going On,” approaches photography as a form of witness. The exhibition returns again and again to human figures, says juror Jan Tichy: “The very people Gaye calls upon us to see, hear, and care for. Questions of identity, labor, race, migration, ecology, intimacy, violence, memory, and belonging unfold through an overwhelming presence of portraiture.”
