The Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago (FAHSC) Museum is thrilled to announce Masasarap na Panaginip (Delicious Dreams), a solo exhibition of drawings by Filipina American artist Lisa Villa-Moser, curated by Lisa Villa-Moser herself, Set Gozo and James Mamuad, opening Saturday, June 6, 12-4 PM.
Over the past seven months, Lisa Villa-Moser has been creating her works for Delicious Dreams. Many of these pieces are vibrant and colorful, drawing inspiration from both her childhood and her experiences living in the Philippines and the United States and now an adult living with cancer. Creating these works brought her a sense of peace and offered moments of reprieve from the reality of her diagnosis. The imagery within these drawings reflects a kind of visual stream of consciousness — an embrace of spontaneity, intuition, and surrendering control during an uncertain period in her life.
Over the last decade, her practice has focused primarily on oil paintings exploring themes of flowers and landscapes, emphasizing emotional resonance through color and composition rather than literal narrative.
From the artist herself, “Delicious Dreams is a collection of whimsical, colorful drawings on paper that I feel beg for a narrative.”
This new body of work blends elements of surrealism and existentialism while maintaining a sense of joy and playfulness. It marks only the second time in her career that she has exhibited an entire collection of drawings, as these works feel especially intimate and deeply personal to her. The exhibition also includes a group of black-and-white ink drawings created in 2022 that she has not publicly exhibited until now.
