The Future of the Visualist Planning Meeting
@ Spudnik Press
1821 W Hubbard St, Suite 302 Chicago, IL 60622
Opening Sunday, April 12th, from 10AM - 12PM
We are continuing a conversation about what it will take to sustain The Visualist.
At our 3/21 meeting, we reviewed the history and current state of the platform: a real-time cultural calendar and archive publishing 3,500+ events per year, requiring roughly 30 hours a week for research, data entry, approvals, newsletters, and admin. We discussed the unstable 2011 site infrastructure, the minimal operating budget (~$4K/year), and the fact that most work is now carried by a single person. Closing the site was seen as a significant loss, and transferring it was considered premature. The focus is now on making the platform work.
This gathering will focus on that goal. We will look at the following:
-What is required to rebuild and stabilize the site
-How we can expand support for event research and publishing
-Ideas for strengthening organizational structures, including board development and fundraising
Together, we will define concrete next steps for each of these subjects and set up working groups to carry them forward.
