M. LeBlanc is proud to present ‘Countersealed’, a solo exhibition by Chicago artist Mindy Rose Schwartz. The exhibition marks Schwartz’s first solo exhibition in Chicago in over a decade and presents significant recent works from the artist’s practice.
Working as a sculptor and installation artist, Chicago artist Mindy Rose Schwartz creates work with a wholly distinct aesthetic. Schwartz’s practice has a wide-ranging repertoire of disciplines, but primarily employs ceramics, fibers, and an assemblage of forgotten objects. Gracefully combining elements of new-age mysticism, craft novelties of yesteryear, and outsider art traditions, Schwartz sculpts striking, abstract works that feel simultaneously otherworldly and domestic. Averse to immediate legibility, Schwartz’s work renders a discourse that’s as compelling as it is abstract – concepts of collective memory, the passage of nostalgia, and the interplay of class and taste, are evidently at stake in the work.
Mindy Rose Schwartz (American, b. Chicago, IL) lives and works in Chicago. Recent solo exhibitions of Schwartz’s work include Rude Awakening (2025) at Sophie Tappeiner in Vienna, Mindy Rose Schwartz (2021) at Interstate Projects in Brooklyn, Mindy Rose Schwartz (2020) at Et. Al. Gallery in San Francisco, Mindy Rose Schwartz (2017) Queer Thoughts at Balice Hertling in Paris, Mindy Rose Schwartz (2017) at Queer Thoughts in New York, and Alien Head Key Chains (2017) at Atlanta Contemporary. Schwartz completed her MFA at the University of Illinois in Chicago.
