2025 Eyeworks Experimental Animation Screening Series
@ Block Museum of Art, Northwestern University
40 Arts Circle Dr, Evanston, IL 60208
Opening Saturday, November 8th, from 12PM - 5PM
The Eyeworks Experimental Animation Screening Series is an annual festival focusing on experimental animation, with screening events in Chicago, LA, and NY each fall. Eyeworks spotlights works made by individual artists, drawing on the tradition of classic cartoon animation and the lineages of avant-garde and underground cinema. The aim of Eyeworks, now in its 14th year, is to present works that celebrate animation as an experimental art form. Past Eyeworks guests with retrospective screenings have included David OReilly, Lori Damiano, Nancy Andrews, Caleb Wood, Takeshi Murata, Martin Arnold, Jacolby Satterwhite, Naoyuki Tsuji, Janie Geiser, Laura Harrison, Barry Doupé, Al Jarnow, and Yoriko Mizushiri. The 2025 Eyeworks guest is James J.A. Mercer, with a live slideshow performance and the world premiere of his new film Jason’s Story, made in collaboration with Yifan Jiang, at 2220 Arts + Archives in Los Angeles. Eyeworks is curated by Alexander Stewart and Lilli Carré, and is presented by Pioneer Works.
