Miguel Cortez is a Chicago-based artist and curator originally from Guanajuato, Mexico. He studied filmmaking at Columbia College and visual art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Deeply involved in the local arts community, he was the founder and director of Antena, an influential alternative art space in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood as well as a founding member of the art collective called Polvo.
Cortez’s work has been exhibited widely, including shows at Gallery 414 in Fort Worth, the Krannert Art Museum, and the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago. His exhibitions also span nationally and internationally, with highlights including Mighty Fine Arts in Dallas, Prospectus Art Gallery, and VU Space in Melbourne, Australia.
