Caracoleando: Poemas Naturales
Poesía y Grabados / Poetry & Print
Enjoy the unveiling of the bilingual publication of Caracoleando: Poemas Naturales, with readings by authors and printmaking led by Marimacha Monarca Press, amid the Burnham Wildlife Corridor.

About Caracoleando: Poemas Naturales
This book features poems written as part of the Caracoleando
series of literary workshops led by Contratiempo Magazine and held at the Chicago Art Department on the occasion of the 2023 Contra Corriente festival highlighting artists, activists, and organizations working to advance racial and environmental justice in Chicago and beyond. After a tour of the BWC, participants were invited to reflect on the possible connections between the natural environment and consequences of climate change. The result is reflected in the eleven poems in this publication, which grow out of memory, fiction intertwined with experience, and images abstracted from the sensuality and exuberance of summer.

About Marimacha Monarca Press
Marimacha Monarca Press is a queer & trans familia artist collective based in Chicago’s south side since 2017. While based in the McKinley Park clock tower, MMP travels across Chicago to provide workshops in printmaking, seed paper making, piñata making, book-binding and zine-making as a means of self publication, communication, and reflection. Working alongside themes of queerness, race, language, migration, accessibility, and visual storytelling, MMP’s hope is to illustrate and illuminate the power of collective histories.
