In March 2020, 25 young musicians from the Bolivian Experimental Orchestra for Indigenous Instruments (OEIN) traveled to Germany to play concerts in Berlin and Dresden. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the concerts were cancelled. And when Bolivia closed its borders to international travel, the musicians found themselves stuck in the Music Academy in Rheinsberg/Brandenburg for nearly three months – the titular 84 days. Part concert film and part meditation on the nature of improvisation in music, this contemplative documentary captures the orchestra’s collaborations with their German colleagues as they face COVID-19 by delving into musical projects.

This event is free and open to the public, but please register in advance and bring a photo ID to facilitate check-in.

This program accompanies ‘Shift: Music, Meaning, Context,’ an exhibition produced in collaboration between Goethe-Institut Chicago and The Museum of Contemporary Photography currently on view at the Museum through August 6, 2023.
