In this conversation, the artist Carlos Salazar-Lermont and curator Wil Ruggiero will unwrap the intricacies of the body of work presented in Salazar-Lermont’s solo show Ecclesiastés 1:2. Moderated by Latin American scholar Marina Resende Santos, they will explore the context in which the works were produced, and the concepts that formally and conceptually shaped the pieces now viewable in Chuquimarca. Emerged in the precarious and tense political environment of late Venezuela, Salazar-Lermont’s featured work becomes a bridge that connects underlying cultural structures inherited from Catholicism, the Socialist Chavista movement and the subjectivity of an individual in times of increasing oppression.
