Every First Sunday of the Month, Hyde Park Art Center is activated with activities throughout the center for the public, neighbors, and families. Join us for a family friendly filled day with inter-generational art making activities, artist workshops, artist talks, open studios, curatorial tours of our exhibitions, and community collaborations. Due to Covid-19, we are going virtual!

Lecture & Workshop from Jen De Los Reyes (HPAC Alumni Resident Artist) 2-3pm Zoom

Creative laborer, educator, radical community arts organizer, and writer Jen Delos Reyes’s work and research often centers on the intersection of art and everyday life. In this talk and workshop Delos Reyes will share an overview of artist practices and approaches to life that inspired her own, as well share some of the art in daily life experiments and projects she has engaged in during the pandemic.

Attendees will complete a series of assignments and prompts throughout the session using the following common household items, please have the materials ready when attending the session:
-Pair of scissors
-Four 4×6 piece of white paper or card
-a pen or pencil
-about 20 dried beans or small pebbles
-a lighter

Artmaking Activity: Paper Dolls with Naomi Martinez

Following last month’s shoebox diorama, add some life to the space and create a colorful paper doll with moveable arms and legs with teaching artist Naomi Martinez.

Use a variety of everyday household materials to embellish and bring your unique paper doll to life!
Supplies: Pencil, Jar Lid, Card stock paper, Construction or patterned paper, Scissors, Scotch tape, Glue stick, Needle, Thread

Naomi Martinez grew up in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. She has been creating her Monstrochika Art since 2000 through the mediums of traditional illustration, paintings, murals, doll making, and zines of her daily drawings.

Ledger Art as Revolution and The Art of Creative Wing Resident Artist Chris Pappan

Join us for a presentation of work from our Creative Wing Resident Artist, Chris Pappan, for a brief history of Plains Ledger Art, and how the artist embraces an artistic tradition to project a positive, human experience of Native Americans in the 21st Century.

Artist Run Chicago 2.0 Performance from Mark Jeffrey 3:30-4:30pm on Zoom
Mark Jeffery is Chicago based performance/installation artist, curator and educator at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since 1993 Mark Jeffery has developed unconventional collaborations with visual artists, scholars, video artists, sound artists, new media and code artists, dancers, choreographers, curators, and writers. His works often involve public participation.
