Feb 28th 2020

This year’s CASE conference planning committee from Niles North High School is pleased to announce that the 2020 CASE Conference will be held Friday, February 28, at the Chicago History Museum. The conference theme: โ€œLines in the Sand: The Changing Narrative of American Identity and Migration.”

It is commonly acknowledged that the history of the United States and the history of immigration are inextricably linked. In the last 10 years, this relationship has taken on new and sometimes alarming dimensions. This yearโ€™s CASE Conference will focus on the NOW, the present lives and experiences of migrants and refugees as they navigate their way into and through the American civil society. Of course this also means we will reach into our curricula and pedagogy for ways to teach the complexities of the moment.

Afterย our keynote speakerย sets the tone, the rest of the day provides an opportunity to see how teachers of American Studies are integrating these issues into lessons, units, text selection, and even classroom activities and procedures. We invite you to submit a proposal to lead a session, sharing something youโ€™ve already done or hope to do with your students. We are especially looking for sessions that actively engage the attendees, and perhaps even provide classroom-ready suggestions.
