Visual art exhibition ‘traces of home’ coincides with Uprising Theater’s screening of filmmaker Colette Ghunim’s documentary, ‘Traces of Home.’ This documentary shares Colette’s journey with her parents to find the ancestral houses they were forced to flee as children in Mexico and Palestine. Colette’s initial desire to heal her disconnect from her cultures and her parents reveals an internal quest to discover home within herself.
In dialogue with this documentary, Uprising Theater invited artists to share work relating to themes of home, ancestry, diaspora, and tracing of family history and self. W e are thrilled to present the work of angie darianna, Abby Linatoc Mendoza, and Savneet Talwar.
angie darianna explores and archives intimacy through personal relationships and histories, ritual through acts of offering and collecting, and notions of mundanity (ig: @duermetea, website: https://duermetea.cargo.site/).
Abby Linatoc Mendoza is a second generation Filipino-American mixed media artist exploring identity and space (ig: @elanlinatoc, website: https://elanlinatoc.com/).
Savneet Talwar is an American Studies scholar, fiber artist, educator, art therapist and somatic coach. Her art and therapeutic practice is informed by her doctoral training in anti-oppressive frameworks, social justice and intersectional feminism (ig: @saradani_stitches, website: https://www.savneettalwar.com/).
