For this edition, Groundwaves Generations features a live performance by the Microphone Misfitz, a beginner-friendly break dance workshop with Mr. Wolf, a hands-on Tape Art workshop led by Well Chicago, outdoor street games, including HOOPcycle, empanadas from Cafe Tola, and more!

Produced in collaboration with Groundwaves—a unique platform for hip-hop, community building, and collaboration—Groundwaves Generations transforms the typical family museum outing into an intergenerational day party, with family-friendly MCs, beat makers, and creative activities happening throughout the museum.

Featuring

MURS is a true artist and entrepreneur, who has crafted a remarkable legacy and lifted many other artists as he’s climbed. He has collaborated with a range of artists, from Snoop and E-40 to Mac Miller and Kendrick. MURS also founded the most successful independent rap festival, Paid Dues. He has toured the world and performed at many notable festivals; Coachella, Bonnaroo and Camp Flognaw to name just a few. Among his numerous accolades, MURS was also the first emcee to set the Guinness World Record for Rap Marathon, rapping nonstop for an astounding 26 hours live on Twitch. MURS has certainly carved a unique path in the music industry with 18 solo albums, numerous collaborative projects, and 20 plus years touring nationally and internationally. He also created Groundwaves, a national music mentorship and artist development platform that currently is active in three different states.

The Microphone Misfitz, are more than a band or crew, creating music but using the pillars of HipHop and their shared dynamics to enlighten and sustain their audiences and themselves. Kin Solo, DFEX, and Jet Nam/ Jet9 are the choreography and movement artists; Ray of Light is the high-octane hype-man and MC; Mel L. is the Graff artist, vocalist, and road DJ; DJ Mar & Mike Knobel (aemka) are the production team; and D-Nick is the lead MC, lyricist & artistic director of the group. The Microphone Misfitz have toured worldwide from grassroots gatherings to South by Southwest; from Algeria to China and elsewhere; Sharing stages with luminaries such as Crucial Conflict, Black Star, KRS-ONE, Jeru tha Damaja, Saul Williams, Æsop Rock and more.

Focused on the themes of living for a healthier state of mind; and uplifting those who are trying to find their path in this world, the Fitz embody the acronym Healthy Independent People Helping Other People.

Prince FloWo1f aka Mr. Wolf is a Midwest native who started breaking in 2009 immersing himself in hip-hop’s multiple art forms, studying music production and street art. While traveling across the U.S to compete in dance battles and attend hip-hop events, Mr. Wolf connected with legendary pioneers who shaped Hip Hop culture. In 2018, he founded @mr.wolfsacademy and formed his Dance Crew “Divine Beast,” and was later inducted into “The Universal Zulu Nation.” Mr. Wolf’s Academy extends beyond the dance floor, hosting community events, performances and workshops while partnering with elders to preserve Chicago’s hip-hop legacy and the histories of other international legends.

Well Chicago is a nonprofit expanding access to arts and innovation programming for young people across Chicago. Through experimental, hands-on experiences, Well Chicago helps youth build confidence, imagination, and stronger connections to their communities.

Iiimagine face painting’s owner and lead artist Sierra Adams is passionate about nurturing relationships with her clients that celebrate the ability of people of all ages to be active participants in the creative process and she is deeply committed to creating a shared visually immersive art experience.

HOOPcycle, conceptualized by artist Marisa Morán Jahn and architect Rafi Segal, draws inspiration from both contemporary basketball and its ancient pre-Columbian ancestor. It’s design combines a reinterpreted vertical hoop with a tricycle-mounted design, offering a reimagined sports experience that challenges norms and unites communities through play.

Led by Chef Victoria Salamanca, Chicago’s Cafe Tola offers hand-rolled, freshly cooked empanadas inspired by Latin-American and global comfort food. At Groundwaves Generations, the menu will include a variety of Cafe Tola empanadas, including vegan, vegetarian, and meat options.
