Rebecca Griffith: Video Magic 1996
@ Art City
1400 N Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60642
Opening Friday, October 10th, from 5PM - 9PM
On view through Thursday, November 6th
Interdisciplinary artist and educator, Rebecca Griffith recalls growing up with a mother with multiple sclerosis, who ran a video store, Video Magic, in the early 1990s. Her mother’s diagnosis divided her life into pre- and post-store chapters. Griffith’s new exhibition, Video Magic: 1996 explores the closure of the store and the ephemera that began to pile up in her home. This work examines the process of caregiving for a parent’s chronic disease and aging alongside her mother and sister.
Art City located at 1400 N. Halsted Street on Friday, October 10th, 5-9pm. Free and open to the public.
