Opening Saturday, October 11th, from 5PM - 9PM

On view through Sunday, November 9th

T. Mari Gallery is pleased to present Object Lessons, a curatorial project by Tim Lowly, opening October 11 and on view through November 9, 2025. The exhibition features seventeen artists, each represented by a single powerfully charged work, brought together to invite reflection, dialogue, and discovery.
Admission is free. The opening reception on October 11 will run from 5:00–9:00 p.m. The gallery is located at 1023 N. Western Avenue, Chicago. Regular hours are Friday and Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 4:00 p.m.

In Object Lessons, Lowly treats curation as a form of inquiry rather than a mode of conclusion. The works in the exhibition do not provide tidy answers; instead, they pose questions about what an object holds—what it might mean, how it carries memory, identity, tension, beauty, or ambiguity—and how each piece enters into a relationship with the others.

“Curating is intended as an advocacy for art as a meaning‐making (even if sometimes perplexing) endeavor. … Each of the seventeen artists is represented by a single artwork. … These artworks are in some way conceptually and meaningfully charged … the intent here is to present artworks … in ways that will invite the viewer into their own creatively thoughtful engagement.” — Tim Lowly

The show is built around the idea of objects as carriers of meaning. Lowly’s approach emphasizes open‐endedness: viewers are encouraged not just to look, but to engage critically and emotionally. How does a single work, placed in relation to others, shift our perception? What latent stories or associations does it evoke? These questions underlie the fabric of the exhibition.
