SUNDAY July 20th 🌴 DISCOTEXTURE, Or, a Performance that Ends with Consensus is a spoken poetic on space making and making dance floor feelings into temporary monuments. Accompanying me (on very minimal keyboard) are two consummate bassists of only the most discobedient flavors: Esther Espino and Ro Lundberg; bringing the “Hot Chocoloate,” “New York Bus Stop” and other disco steps of yore: Camille Casemier; to help find some consensus with all this there are 30 outsourced “YES”’s that will be gifted (and maybe read???) by the audience. Granulars below, and very excited to be in concert on this bill with other works by @rarabernstein and Damon Griffin. TY to @fergalana and @the___lawn for the invite. Don’t/can’t/why miss???
🪩 The Disco Merengue from “Let’s Disco!” almost certainly referenced with merengue cookies at this event.
🪩 The Disco Merengue also almost certainly danced at this event by CAMILLE CASEMIER: a Chicago based artist, educator, and content creator for a resale shop who conspires with and against legacies. Her works occur across pages, stages, and screens, often given form by cameras and audiences, pursued as an ongoing experiment with the film essay. (📸: @jona_mikosch
🪩 All dance is a constellation and so is everything all the time (alienation alone wants us alone!)
🪩 I absolutely stole the idea of using two bassists in a disco performance from Arthur Russell and what two bassists to grace this performance: ESTHER ESPINO: is a bassist for the DuPage Symphony Orchestra, a writer and curator. RO LUNDBERG: makes sound and image, thinks about and drinks water. They perform solo and with outfits ranging from improvising ensembles to art rock bands.
